Out to tri (OTT) is the first UK national group aimed at but not exclusively for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered) triathletes and wannabe triathletes and had its first social in Autumn 2004 after a long 2 years of email correspondence from other LGBT triathletes and interested parties UK wide.

Just before the Gay Games in Sydney 2002 there had been a small number of gay triathletes in London and who attended the Games and competed there. The Gay Games is about participation and having a go and there is no entry criteria, its open to anyone regardless of ability or sexual orientation. The triathlon there had several hundred participants from all over the globe. Several of us met up whilst being in Sydney and decided we should try and move the next step in developing an LGBT UK triathlon group.

What this group is trying to do in preparation for the next games is to build up more of a “team” feel and support network ready for the future Gay Games, Eurogames and gay sports festival, Pride runs, gay swim meets, and possibly meeting up occasionally (however location may be an issue due to people living UK wide) for training weekends or possibly meeting at races.

Many of the people within the group are active members of other LGBT sports groups such as London Frontrunners and Outtoswim. This group remains a support group with occasional socials, and does not aim to be a new “club” as many athletes belong to established clubs.
